GPS

Global Positioning System, GPS, is owned and operated by the United States government (Department of Defense) as a national resource, and available worldwide. The GPS does not require the user to transmit any data.

GPS location is usually converted to latitude, longitude, and height relative to sea level. These coordinates may be displayed, for example on a moving map display and/or recorded and/or used by some other system (e.g., a vehicle guidance system).

GPS receivers released after 2018 (that use the L5 band) can pinpoint to within 11.8 inches. Older versions have an accuracy of 16 feet.
